Our Patriotic Song is getting national attention!

Barbara Silberg set the music to Emma Lazarus' profound inscription on the Statue of Liberty ("Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor") and the song has since been featured on the National Institute of Health's Patriotic Song Website. Now, thanks to the creativity of David Tobocman, we have a video to go with the song. To download the song, please go to www.TinyTuneTown.com or www.SongsforTeaching.com

West LA Children's Choir Performing at Hillary Live event
The choir went on to get a standing ovation while singing Keep-a-Goin' (written by Bob and Barbara Silberg) in front of a live audience at a Hillary Clinton Live fundraiser at the Wilshire Theater in Beverly Hills.

Hillary Clinton and West LA Children's Choir
Mrs. Clinton popped into the green room before the kids went on stage to wish them well and to pose with them for a picture.

The only problem some of the kids were having when these two extrordinary events were over was trying to make their friends at school believe them when they spoke of their fantastic experiences! Maybe when their friends take a closer look at the group photo they will be believed. Note the lady with the blond hair towards the back of the choir!

'I Have A Dream/This Is Our Moment' Song Is Launched On Internet Radio!

Our choir director, Barbara Silberg, and her husband Bob, took inspiration from the words of Martin Luther King and Barack Obama and wrote a song that will hopefully become a patriotic favorite. The song "I Have A Dream/This is Our Moment" has already joined another of Mrs. Silberg's songs, "Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor" on the list of Patriotic Music at the National Institute of Health's Educational Website, and yesterday, Christine, Terry, Skylar and Eloise introduced the song on Internet Radio! Thanks to the people at NovaMradio, the kids talked about the song after the audience heard the recording on the air. Following the broadcast, the four members of the W.L.A. Children's Choir celebrated with a box of chocolate candy!

choir at autry museum
On November 24, 2007, the West L. A. Children's Choir was happy to be a part of the first annual Santa-Sing-A-Long at the Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum in Griffith Park. It was an honor to sing Gene Autry's big hit "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" and the setting turned out to be the perfect place to also sing their own hit, "Christmas in the West"!

Thoughts on the Think-Off

On June 13, 2008 three lucky members of the West Los Angeles Children's Choir (Christine, Xena and Roxy), traveled along with their parents and Bob and Barbara to New York Mills, Minnesota where they sang the Statue of Liberty Song ("Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor") at The Great American Think-Off. The Los Angeles kids immediately bonded with their new choir friends from Minnesota and everyone took part in a parade before the Think-Off. Following the event, where 500 audience members learned and sang the song with the choir members, the performers and parents celebrated with hamburgers and fries at the local bowling alley.

Minnesota Trip Minnesota Trip

Thanks so much to Dina and Zoe Olsen who were the inspiration for the trip. Dina (Zoe's mom and homeschool teacher) encouraged Zoe to write a letter to Barbara about the song as part of her school work! And a big thanks as well to Becky Olmstead who taught her New York Mills Choir the Statue of Liberty song so they could join our kids on stage.

Leeza Gibbons Show

Leeza Gibbons and Choir

On Wednesday, December 13th, the West L.A. Children's Choir taped the Leeza Gibbons show, a nationally syndicated radio program, which broadcasts throughout the United States and Canada. The program played in Los Angeles on Christmas Eve between 7-11:00 PM. The kids sang six songs and were all interviewed on air. They even got to do voice-over promos which were heard throughout the four hour show.
